Economic and lifestyle support for students

At Kyushu University, we provide economic and lifestyle support for students in order to help them enjoy student life. Given the recent economic downturn, the number of applications for such support from both parents and students is increasing. In order to respond to such requests, it is important for staff to understand the details of the type of support available, so that they can provide accurate information to students.

○Admission fee waivers and deferments on collection

  1. Admission fee waivers
Entrants facing difficulty in paying their enrollment fee for financial reasons and who are recognized to be achieving excellent results in their academic work (postgraduates only) and entrants acknowledged to have special circumstances (undergraduates and postgraduates) may apply to be considered for this waiver.
Please refer to "★To learn more" about admission fee waivers if you are approved after the selection process.
    * The one who was recognized as a recipient of a scholarship provided for undergraduates (except international students) by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) will be exempted as follows according to the category of the scholarship.
     Category I Full exemption
     Category II Two-thirds exemption
     Category III One-third exemption
     Category IV One-fourth exemption
⇒ For eligibility requirements, see ★ Want to know more below
  2. Admission fee deferments
If an entrant is facing difficulty in paying their enrollment fee by the due date for financial reasons and is recognized as having an excellent academic record or special circumstances, they will be selected based on their application. If approved, the collection of the entrance fee will be postponed.
Any extension in payment involves deferment of payment of the enrollment fee, and does not represent an exemption from payment. Students given this extension must still pay the full enrollment fee by the deferment deadline.
⇒ For eligibility requirements, see ★ Want to know more below

If it is anticipated that there will be no change in the student's family finances in the second semester, he/she may apply for the waiver for the second semester at the time of applying for the waiver for the first semester, but selection will be carried out on a semester-by-semester basis.

○Student accommodation

The University has accommodation on Ito Campus (Dormitory 1, Dormitory 2, Dormitory 3, and Ito Harmony House; all mixed-sex and with Japanese and international students living together), and on the Ohashi Campus (the mixed dormitory Ijiri-Ryo). The University also provides dedicated accommodation facilities for international students located in Ijiri and Maidashi.

*Requirements for residence

In the case of Japanese students, undergraduates and postgraduates are permitted to reside in the dormitories, as a general rule, while research students, non-degree students, and Auditors are not.

International students who are new entrants may reside in the dormitories, in principle. However, international students who are new entrants may not reside there if they have lived in the dormitories, or they or their spouse are already living in the Fukuoka area.

*Accommodation entry

In principle, students can move into the dormitories twice a year, in April and October.

*Residence period

The student accommodation at Ito Campus is in principle available for a maximum of one year. Ijiri-Ryo is available for the period during which students are studying on standard courses.

In the case of international students, all student accommodation is available for a maximum of six months, as a general rule. However, international exchange students accepted for a year or less and students on short-term study abroad programs are permitted to reside in student accommodation for the duration of their period of international study (except research students).

*Selection

Selection of students (other than international students) is by consideration of their home economic circumstances. Ijiri-Ryo conducts selection by means of an interview with the dormitory committee (consisting of students).

In the case of international students, selection will be conducted in accordance with the resident selection criteria of each accommodation facility.
